Journey to The Last Frontier.

Our ‘Pedal the Himalaya Tour’ started from Tenzin Gaon in Arunachal Pradesh at 2000 mts ASL on September 9, 2023.

A learning from the Chamba tour was to start from altitude of 1500 mts plus as the plains’ heat and humidity is a huge energy depleter, and energy and motivation are two vital ingredients to climb mountains for weeks. We stayed at the home of a Tibetan family – the Pema Homestay at Tashigaon and felt a great deal of pride to sleep in a room that belonged to the head of the family who has served in the Special Frontier Force. The sons of the lady there are also serving in the armed forces. The village is stunning and really picturesque and the wild forests of Arunachal were overwhelming. It’s a stark contrast from the over touristed mountains of the North but the Trans Himalaya highway we are on is also very popular as it leads to Tawang. We headed out after praying at the monastery and climbed to 2400 mts and then descended again to Shergaon (Sein Thuk is the indigenous name) finally, which is a scenic village in a long valley at 2064 mts and is nestled by a narrow winding river flanked by bush and trees.
