Cycling past Geological Wonders

Mawphlang to Mawsynram

Day 64 was a fabulous ride filled with stunning landscapes, old Catholic Churches standing tall on hilltops, being decorated, the air filled with gospel music in some villages. The geological formations and imposing cliffs were fascinating and reminded me of the Western Ghats and the road on a plateau shining like a strip of steel disappearing into the mountains brought back memories of Mexico. The sight of the monoliths on top of the church along side the cross was a sign that the indigenous crossed the bridge to a religion but held on to their ancestral beliefs. We cycled late into the evening, delayed not by the elevation gain but the grandeur of the natural beauty around us. We stopped for cakes and tea along side a village bakery, photographed Christmas celebrations on the street and watched a local football game being played near the road. It was what a day it should be like when touring on a bicycle. The world is experienced in a way you can never feel in a car. And yes we found a mysterious cathedral like geological formation on a mountain which the locals had not even spotted!
