A hard ride and push to Pelling

Day 50 (!) of our Pedal the Himalaya tour across the Indian Himalayas with twelve continuous expeditions.

We knew it would be a tough steep 1450 mts (4785 ft ) climb in just 24 kms from Legship to Pelling but we didn’t factor the conditions of the roads as they had severely crumbled in many sections along the way. The dust, traffic and rocks all blended into Hells Cocktail and turned it into pedal and push adventure that lasted nine hours. Along the way we crossed the town of Geyshing where we managed some food and were pleasantly surprised to see a police post with a lending library inside it as well!

We pushed in the dark for most of the last five kms into Pelling as Ashims knee was paining and the road was steep, narrow, potholed and it was pitch dark. The day was also quite wonderfully punctuated by gorgeous views of the cherry blossom trees and poinsettias in full bloom along the road, and the heartwarming sunset.
