Mawphanlur, The Lake Village
Mawphanlur is a quaint village in Meghalaya at over 6000 ft. blessed with five natural lakes, pine and oak forests, around whom some rural eco tourism has sprung up. We camped here for two days, pitching our tent on a patch of land overlooking the lake, content to just bask in the sun, go for long walks around the high meadows and light a fire in the late evening to cook soup and keep our bones heated as it was very cold at night at 3 degrees Celsius. The wind would pick up at around 11 pm and blow across from the lakes. Since our tent was in its path it resulted in us having to put up the ultra light tarp over a part of the tent to block the wind and the accompanying misty moisture from the lake early in the morning. As on all our camping sites, we had a furry friend around to eat all our biscuits and rice! We named her Caramel and she would sleep in the tall grass near the tent each night and eagerly wait for the biscuits as soon as I would put on the stove to make coffee and cook breakfast!
